Does Tecnology Impoverish The Mind? (Final Project)
December 8, 2009English Vodcast
November 10, 2009What format did you choose?
I used my usual vlog style format with a lot of short clips put together to make the whole video. I like this way because it is easier to edit out mistakes. Because every clip is only a few seconds long it eliminates having to redo long takes if I mess up. I also like this way because I feel l it is more lively than just one take. It doesn’t drag on like a one take vlog does and with the background music it makes the video more entertaining.
What kind of content?
Throughout the whole video I was just talking to a webcam on the computer. I was not really talking about me but more about what I do. I mainly spoke about my hobbies and what I am known for. Also contained in my video was some background music. It had no words or anything but it added an upbeat feeling to the video instead of the video just being talking. Other than that it was fairly a simple video; just a webcam and talking but I feel it got the job done.
How did you decide?
I decided to do it this way because it has been the way I’ve always done it. If you look at any of my past videos, they are put together the same way and have the same tempo and vibe. As far as the material I was saying; I simply thought it was the easiest way to tell a little bit about myself in the most interesting way.
How did the tech shape your decisions?
As far as technology shaping my decisions it didn’t make that much of an impact. The major impact of my technology decisions was the fact that my personal laptop was not working so I had to barrow a friend’s laptop. That made it more difficult to put the video together the way I pictured it because I didn’t have the right programs to put it together. But all in all I only had to sacrifice a little of what I wanted to do and the video came out as I wanted it to.

Thank You Technology (Revision)
October 20, 2009From the time we wake up to the time we lay down for bed, technology is all around us. I know I use technology from dusk till dawn and sometimes beyond that. Some sort of technology is with me at all times. Whether it be my phone, laptop, DJ equipment, or simply flipping a light switch technology is all around me. Technology is and will always be around me and a part of me. It is sad to say that I would probably not be able to make it though the day without some sort of technology helping me out. I use it for business, pleasure, and my studies. Technology has made everything around us easier and it truly makes the world go around.
Convenience.
Technology makes everything so convenient and it is the reason we use it today. It is also way we strive to improve technology in order to make it even easier. Some examples can be the web. The internet has made life so much easier for everyone on this planet. Past generation would not have access to the information we have today. If you had to write a research paper back in the day you would have to go though and endless amount of papers and books just to get you information. Now-a-days you still have those resources but they are now digital and on a huge database of information. All the information you can want is at your fingertips at anytime. I do most of my research on a computer and if I ever use a book I look for it online. So all of my research is done though a computer in some way.
It also makes everything easier in our day to day life. Technology keeps track of your financial records, helps you organize your day, and shows you how to do things you’ve always wanted to learn. Most of our finances are done on computers now instead of good old pencil and paper. It is more efficient to use computers for everything today. Most of our bills are now paid for online and bank statements are also available online. Every time we swipe a card or write a check is recorded in a data base somewhere for future use if need be. I do all my finances online because it is just so convenient and easy.
We use technology to keep track of our day to day lives. Our schedules are now put on you pda or cell phone. We plan and make dates online and over the phone instead of in person. Even meetings can be held with people around the world from home offices. Technology has made business so much easier for business workers to work and make deals. Corporations have been able to evolve and expand beyond their imaginations. Back in the good old days deals were made with a handshake after being in a hot conference room for a few hours. Now it’s done behind a laptop and the deal is done after a whole mess of contracts are signed. Those days were no more than 20 years ago.
Now the knowledge of the world can be accessed in the matter of seconds. Anything you want to know is available online from sites like youtube or google. I learned a lot of different Djing techniques online by watching Djs around the world perform. That is something that I could not do without youtube. Anything you want to know is on the web somewhere, now some of the most viewed videos on youtube are videos about how to do make up and fashion. Google is my best friend; if I ever need to find something you I use trusty google. Even for random trivia questions I have I just google it and my headache is gone.
Entertainment.
I need technology in order to make it though a day, not a minute goes by where I don’t use technology. Even when I check the time I have to use my phone. Like most people I would be lost without my phone. I even used my Blackberry to write some of this essay. My phone is with me all day every day. It is how I connect with everyone. I leave my phone on all night just in case someone has to get a hold of me. When my phone loses service I feel lost. Especially here on campus I have the worse signal and when my phone does not work I feel disconnected from the world.
My laptop goes everywhere I go. It is where I do all my work for school and my business. My laptop is my main source of entertainment. It is where I watch movies, play music, and talk with friends. Thanks to social networking sites I can keep in touch with all my friends from where ever they are. The main sites I use are Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter. I use them all for different things. My myspace I mainly use for my Djing mixes and networking. It is the site I use to promote my Mobile Dj business using pictures, mixes and other promotional tools. My Facebook is more for my own personal use and I use it more to talk to friends rather than network. Personally I like facebook better to socialize with friends better than myspace. The reason why I like it better is because it allows you to really communicate with your friends better than myspace. I use my Twitter mainly for news and sports updates but I do like how I can see what my friends are doing while on it. Twitter is really starting to catch on and even though I thought it was dumb at first it is crazy the amount of information you can find on it. I get a lot of my news thought twitter and it is a great way for me to stay connected with the world.
Business.
As a mobile Dj Technology has made my life and my profession so much easier. It was not too long ago when Djs used old school vinyl records which only had around 4 songs on each side. Because they had so little music space on them Djs had to carry around crates and crates of these records. These crates were heavy and took a lot of labor so once there was an easier way of transporting your music mobile djs around the world jumped on that new technology. In the 90’s the new era of the CD came into the Dj world when companies such as Pioneer created CD players that allowed Djs to play music off these CDs and still be able to manipulate the music. This was a huge advancement because it replaced 30 crates of vinyl with 10 small cases of CDs. But the problem with this early technology was that you could not fully manipulate the music on CDs like you could with the music on vinyl but this soon changed. Then in the new millennium a new piece of equipment came out that allowed you to manipulate and scratch music from CDs like you could on vinyl. This was huge because this allowed us DJs to scratch which could only be done on vinyl before. These CD players also came with a new feature, the ability to play mp3s. Now you could put seventy to a hundred songs on a CD instead of only 20 songs. This too cut down on the amount of CD cases you had to take to a gig.
Put now there is the program I use. This piece of technology is something that has helped me tremendously in the business. The program I use is called Serato ScratchLive. This program allows DJs to take all the mp3s on a computer and play them on records or CDs and manipulate them like vinyl. It is hard to explain this program but it got rid of CDs. Now all my music is on my laptop and I can play them without the use of CDs or records. It also allows me to see my whole database of music in front of my eyes. Before I would have to memorize what songs where on what CDs and I would have to find that CD in a matter of minutes; now all I have to do is type in the name of the song I want to play and I have it ready to play in a matter of seconds. Another awesome advantage with using a laptop to play your music is if you had an internet connection and someone requests a song you don’t have you could download that song and have it playing in a matter of minutes.
Without technology I don’t know where my life would be. I wouldn’t be able to keep in touch with friends or know what is going on in the world or even perform at my full potential while I’m djing. Without technology my life would be a lot harder than it is right now and I wouldn’t be where I am today without the technology I had. Sure I would still be able to be where I am at but it would take a lot longer and a lot more work to get there.
So in the end technology runs my life and the world I live in and even though technology today can hardly be grasped by today’s society it is still advancing and making an easier world for all of us.
Thank you technology and I cannot wait to see what you have in store for us in the future.

Personal Use of Tech-Brainstorm
October 6, 2009what kinds of tech do i use in my everyday life
phone, laptop, web,
what do i use it for
mainly communication. i use my phone so i can connect with everyone where ever i’m at. my phone is something i use what seems like every minute of the day. i use my laptop for mainly my soical networking sites such as facebook. where i use my phone to talk to people in my day to day life i use facebook to talk to old friends that arent around me. this allows me to stay in touch with old friends while getting aquainted with new ones all at the speed of the web.
for my studies. with all the information on the web it makes studying so much easier. even now with this new tech textbooks are online. for 2 of my classes now all the work is done online which has made the class so much more accecible.
Who Can You Trust???
September 30, 2009Now you can’t trust anyone. Well news wise.
The media has so much false information out there it’s hard to believe any of them, especially on the web. Anyone can post anything they want online and most of it can be false. For example blogs like this one is mainly ones opinion and is composed of the bloggers personal thoughts and biases. I’m not saying that we all post lies and nothing we say is true but who can we trust.
A popular website I like to use for my news is simply Yahoo. Now if you don’t know what Yahoo is than I don’t know how you even got on here in the first place. I’ve found that Yahoo is really accurate in the stories I read from them. And I check cross check most of my stories with other websites to make sure I have the right facts. But I rarely read Yahoo news daily any more. Instead I get my news from a little 3 minute show on youtube.
Now it might seem like it couldn’t be credible at all getting news from a youtube channel but over the past 2 years i have found that most of his stories and facts are right. I get the majority of my news from The Philip DeFranco Show. Now youtube name sXephil has a very unorthodox way of delivering the news that wakes you up to whats happening around the world. Though he adds a lot of his own opinions to each story he still presents the story for you to make up your own opinion. So I’ve found that the number one place for me to get my news is this show and it hasn’t failed me yet.
You can get news from anywhere but you must choose what you believe carefully. Whether it be yahoo, Cnn, Youtube, Or even twitter, you will find the same chances of being false informed on any of them so its up to you to believe what you want to believe.
New Aged Literacy
September 24, 2009The definition of literacy is being able to read and write. And with this new age of technology and advancements with new media literacy is becoming not only being able to read and write but to be computer savvy. Being able to use a computer and the world wide web is a must in todays world and those who can’t suffer a big disadvantage. We see this disadvantage when we see older folks getting their identity stolen on the internet for example. These older people who know how to read and write get taken advantage of only because they are illiterate with computers .
Computers can also damage literacy in the long run. Because of the internet most people use a lot of short hand and abbreviations and it sometimes shows in their writing outside of the online areas. Even now with the sudden popularity of sites like Twitter most people can write or read more than 140 characters without getting distracted. So only writing and reading 140 characters at a time is hurting us in the long run.
So with new age literacy its double edged sword, by the use of new aged language online it can hurt us in the long run if we don’t keep using proper language but if we do not learn this new aged language we will not be able to function in today’s fast paced online society.
The Internet Is For Comunication (Part I)
September 24, 2009Why is this thing we call the internet around and what is it’s sole purpose? Well we can all choose bits and pieces of how we use the internet in our own way but the basis of how we use it is for communication. Everyone uses the world wide web to connect to the world and the people in it though the information they share on it. The very definition of communication is the imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing, or signs. So no matter what you do or how you spend your time on the web you are communicating. This can be shown in all the social media sites out there, all the news media sites out there and all the information sharing sites out there. It is all communication.

The Internet And You
September 22, 2009What is internet for? I had to think about this for a while and I came up with my conclusion….The internet is for everything! Now-a-days you can find anything and everything online. The internet is like that one friend that has been though everything and is like a walking book of knowledge. Before the internet everyone had that one friend and now we all have that one friend on our computer.
The internet is for friends.
Everyone who uses the web is connected to some social networking site. Whether it be Facebook, Twitter, Or even just a Yahoo email account we are all connected to each other via the internet.
The internet is for entertainment
If your ever bored where do you go? The web. You can find entertainment in online games, youtube, or just chatting. We all go to the internet for our pleasure needs. With friends or by ourselves the internet is always around. And it is accessed almost anywhere. From a phone, to a laptop, to a computer, to even a gaming system you can access it from anywhere.
The internet is for news.
You can find out anything that happened though the web. As a matter of fact I find most of my news via youtube and twitter now of days as opposed to the 6 o’clock news or a newspaper. Every piece of info going on in the world is online now and is all just one click away.
